This guide is designed to aid students in creating works that will result in successful Turnitin results. In addition, faculty will find a number of helpful tips for managing Turnitin filters and options.

Turnitin Best Practices for Faculty


  • Indicate your intention to use Turnitin on the course syllabus. 
  • Provide students with specific instructions regarding Turnitin account creation, work submission, etc.
  • Include a statement of academic integrity in the course syllabus, and indicate specific consequences for the use of plagiarism.
  • If requiring students to turn in rough drafts via Turnitin, ensure that "No Repository" underneath Optional Settings -> Submit Papers To  has been selected. 
  • Ensure that Turnitin settings and filters are tuned to your preferences.
