English as a 2nd Language
The About Web sites have a wealth of information but also have many commercial intrusions. If you can ignore the sponsored links much useful information is available at this address. In the articles and resources sections browsers can find discussions on everything from "student correction" to lessons emphasizing sentence stress and intonation.
National Center for ESL Literacy Education
The site focuses on literacy education for ESOL adults and out-of-school youth. The site offers articles on teaching adult ESL students and provides research about adult ESL. This Web site also includes a short review of books and papers, frequently asked questions about adult literacy, a research agenda for adult ESL, and resource compilations. In addition, there is a discussion group that fosters discussion of ESL, literacy, and policy issues.
American Heritage® Dictionary of Idioms
Collection of idioms and popular phrases. Its main fare is idioms - groups of two or more words that taken together mean something different from the literal meaning of the individual words. Each entry is defined and has an example sentence showing the idiom used in context. Most entries offer an explanation of the idiom's literal meaning or origin and include information about its first appearance in English.
