MLA Citation Style, 8th Edition

This guide will provide rules and examples for using MLA citation style.

Streamed Television Episode (that originally appeared on TV station)

Television episode that originally aired on TV, that you streamed.

Example: 

"A Father's Advice." This is Us, season 2, episode 1, NBC, 26 Sept. 2017. Hulu, www.hulu.com/watch/1147079.

 

Television Episode from TV Station

Example: 

"A Father's Advice." This is Us, season 2, episode 1, NBC, 26 Sept. 2017.

 

Hulu (or other streaming service) Original Episode

Example:

"Unwomen." The Handmaid's Tale, season 2, episode 2, 25 Apr. 2018, Hulu, www.hulu.com/watch/1258256.

Note: in this instance, Hulu is not italicized as it is acting here as the publisher of The Handmaid's Tale and not as another "container" for the publisher.

Entire Television Show

Example:

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Performance by Will Smith, NBC, 1990-1996. Netflix, www.netflix.com/title/70143818.

*Note: in this example, the writer is focused on Will Smith's performance.
