EVR 2001: Introduction to Environmental Science

Two Articles - Which is better?

Take five minutes to read over these articles. They're short and you don't need to analyze them deeply. Which of these articles would be a better resource for a research paper? Give two reasons.

What to think about when evaluating articles

Ask these questions when evaluating academic articles for their quality:

  • Where did you find the article?
    • Was it from the library's databases or available publicly online?
    • Is it Open Access?
  • Who wrote the article?
    • Have the authors written other articles?
    • Where have they been published?
    • Are they qualified to write on the topic?
  • When was the article published?
    • Has there been new information published on the topic?
  • What is the paper about?
    • Does the title match the article's content?

After answering a few questions about the article, you'll be able to dig into its content.
