All online (scanned) Course Reserves readings have been proccessed using optical-character-recognition (OCR) technology to make them compatible with Screen Reading software.
The Pace library has one dedicated workstation on the first floor with software that can convert existing documents (e.g. Microsoft Word or PDF) into Braille (which can then be embossed onto appropriate paper using our braille printer). This workstation also features an extra large monitor for patrons with vision impairments and a joystick style mouse for those individuals with motor-control impairments.

Zoom Text - Magnifies text and graphics on the computer screen from two to sixteen times normal size.
Jaws 15 - Reads computer text (both computer application commands and web pages) out loud to blind or low vision users (headphones are available at the Circulation Desk).
Kurzweil 3000 - Scans printed material and reads it out loud to user (headphones are available at the Circulation Desk).
Library patrons may request assistance with retrieving materials from the book stacks at the Circulation Desk (x2414) on the first floor of the library or at the Reference Desk (x2424). Students may also request assistance from library employees engaged in re-shelving library materials.
The library has has purchased a SciPlus-2200 Scientific Calculator to assist patrons with low vision. It can perform scientific, statistical and trigonometric calculations and fractions. This calculator can be checked out from the Circulation Desk at the Pace library.
The Pace library has an analog enlarger to assist patrons with visual impairments. This device will enlarge and display on screen any item which is placed under the camera. There are several additional high-contrast modes that may be helpful for patrons with some forms of color vision deficiency.
The UWF John C. Pace Library has several study carrels available for students on the 3rd and 4th floor.

Library patrons may bring library materials (journals, books, microforms, etc.) to the Reference Desk (x2424) for help with photocopying or scanning. Copies will be made for the user in accordance with copyright guidelines. Users are encouraged to plan ahead to avoid last-minute requests for this accommodation.
The Pace library has two Optelec Compact 7 HD magnifiers available for checkout at the Circulation Desk. This device is ideal for enlarging any type of material anywhere in the library (it's portable so you can take it to where the materials you're trying to view is located).
