Skylab Information

The University of West Florida Skylab in the John C. Pace library is a student oriented 21st century learning space that was constructed with the technology needs of students in mind. The Skylab consists of a non-traditional computer lab, information literacy classroom, multimedia studio and media conversion center.

Personal assistance with computer software and hardware is available. Experienced library staff and students are available to assist you with the software and hardware located in the Skylab. Additionally, reference books on the most popular software titles are readily available for use in the Skylab.

Software Available in Skylab

We are always adding new software to our computers in Skylab. The link below is a partial list of what is available, call or come by the lab for more information in regards to software availability.

If you are a professor or instructor and would like to have an app added to our computers please let us know. If the software is free, we will add it to our computers. If your department has extra licenses for paid software or if UWF has a site license for a software program that you are using in conjunction with a course we can work with you to get the software added to our computers in order to give students more access to the program.

3D Printing

3D Printing

The 3D printing makerspace area in Skylab provides UWF Students, Faculty and Staff the opportunity to design and print 3D objects. The multimedia room/makerspace is intended for educational purposes and is not a 3D printing store. Skylab staff members assist patrons with the 3D printing process and provide support/training in regards to the operation of the 3D printers. Those who are interested in 3D printing are required to learn how to operate the printers and do their own printing. Skylab does not take orders for 3D prints by phone or email, as the 3D makerspace in a hands-on, in-person learning/research lab.The 3D printing makerspace supports innovative instruction by providing UWF students, faculty and staff the opportunity to learn about this technology and create 3D objects.

This resource can be utilized to create prototypes and physical models for class projects and more. Patrons can learn 3D modeling, create anything that they can imagine and learn about how the 3D printing process works.

This service is provided with a nominal fee to cover the cost of materials (plastic filament) and routine maintenance costs associated with operating and maintaining the 3D printing equipment.

Payments for 3D prints are only accepted via Nautilus Card.

Basic printing fees:

Small prints (2 hours or less) $1.00

Medium prints (2 to 4 hours)  $2.50

Large prints (4 hours or more)      $3.50

Grams of plastic used 10¢ per gram
